History of Medical Science In this project, I solved problems, communicated through my work, and I reflected. In my group there was only one group member who wasn’t pulling their weight, and wasting time to work on our project during class. Everyone in the group had noticed, so we all talked to the group member and told her how we felt, after that she was a lot more involved in group decisions and completing tasks.
During this project, there were different tasks assigned for each subject. As a group, we decided to split up the assignments, and then towards the end we would all check over our work. Before, we started, we needed to research our topic. We had two main people that just researched throughout the whole project. If we had any questions, our any information that we thought was inaccurate, we would go ask them for a second opinion. This is how I was able to communicate through my work. For one of the subjects, we had to turn in a rough draft of a paper. The person that was in charge of completing it forgot to have someone read over it to make sure there were no mistakes. Because of this we did not do very well on our rough draft. Thankfully, we learned from it the first time, and we were able to revise it before it counted as an actual grade. |
Truth, Lies, and In-between Throughout the Truth Lies, and In-between project, I solved problems, I reflected, and I collaborated in our community. I solved problems when we were shooting our reenactment of our story. My group had created a fake alligator, and in the video, we wanted to make it look like it was chasing one of the characters, but we couldn’t figure out how. I suggested that we tie a piece of string around the fake alligator, and have the other tie the other end to the characters ankle. That way, whenever the character would run the alligator would follow her where ever she went.
I was able to collaborate well in my group during this project as well. At one point, I felt like I was doing all of the work, and I was able to be honest with my group members, and tell them how much stuff I had on my plate. My group members were very understanding and immediately helped once they realized they were not being beneficial to the project. Lastly, I was able to reflect on what we could have done better at the end of the project. My teachers gave everyone the opportunity to fix what they think they did wrong in the project, and earn back more points where the lost them. My group did not help with this part because even though we did not get a perfect score, they were okay with the grade that we had gotten. In our video I added fake news articles and eerie music to make it look more believable |
Water, Water, Everywhere!
In this project I created an original project, developed art-making skills, and I reflected. In this project, I made a face jug and a coil pot. The face jug was inspired by an old Japanese folklore. I made the face of a woman, and instead of her having normal hair, she had snakes. The snake represented evil, but her face still looked kind.
I developed art-making skills, because this was my very first time making something out of clay. At first, it was very hard, but then I started to get the hang of it. For the coil pot, I learned lots of new techniques for art like making coils and slipping and scoring. When I was glazing I decided to layer with two different colors of paint. For the top layer, I just painted all of the highlights. Lastly, I reflected. Before I started glazing my coil pot, I thought to myself, “What can I do to make this look better?” because it looked kind of bland. Finally, I decided to think outside of the box and paint two colors of paint instead of just one. |

Outbreak
A part of this project was to create a propaganda for any topic that we had a strong opinion about and advertise it on and inside of a matchbox. At this time, we were studying World War 2, and how propaganda posters had a large influence on society back then. Our teacher wanted us to use mainly pictures and minimize the amount of words as much as possible. At first, I had trouble coming up with a topic because I didn’t want to do something that everyone else was doing, however I wanted to represent a true conflict in society today. Eventually, I came up with the idea to do equality. There were so many different ways to represent equality, so I had to brainstorm how I would organize my idea using mainly pictures. I finally decided to decorate what keeps us together on the outside of the matchbox, and put what keeps us apart on the inside. When I first started designing my project, I was worried because I wasn’t sure on how to fit multiple pictures on the inside, but then I decided to have a flap that folded out, so I was able to fit more pictures inside of the matchbox. I think my idea was very original because this is a true conflict that many people are still facing to this day.
Another part of this project was to create a powerpoint on our assigned region and pathogen, which was Latin America and Zika. Every group was doing a presentation on what we had learned from our pathogen, and our plan to prevent, contain, and treatment if our region was to have an outbreak of the pathogen. IN our power point we had to include our treatment, containment, and prevention plan, and background biological and historical information. We only had five slide, and each slide had to have 20 words or less on it. At first I was very confused on how fit all of that information onto into a powerpoint that small. I was able to reflect and ask my teachers for advice. I then realized that instead of the audience reading all if that information off of the powerpoint, they were going to have to listen to the information being said by my group members and me, I came to a conclusion that the powerpoint was only there to summarize what we were saying. One more part of our project was to create a brochure about our pathogen. My job was to do the biological background information for the brochure. I made sure that I gathered all of my background research before I started, so that I was well prepared. Initially, it was very challenging because I had so much information, but I couldn’t fit it all in without making the font too small, or making the brochure seem too crowded. However, I was able to problem solve and cut back greatly on the amount of information that I had. I had to only put int the important and interesting facts about Zika. |
